Cõstituições sinodaes do bispado do Porto. ord[e]nadas pelo muito Reverendo [et] magnifico Sõr. dõ Baltasar Li[m]po bispo do dito bispado. Porto: Por Vasco Diaz Tanquo de Frexenal, 1541, 1 de Março.

[ ]3 [de 10], A-N8, O-Q6, R9; [3 de 10], cxxx, [1] ff.; 245 mm.

SECOND Edition, VERY RARE, of the Constitutions of the Bishopric of Porto. The first printing of the Constitutions of that bishopric took place in 1497, ordered by D. Diogo de Sousa and printed in that city by Rodrigues Alvares. After that, only this edition of 1541, printed by Vasco Tanquo de Frexenal, a Spanish printer who settled in Porto between 1540 and 1541, having left, according to what is known, only 3 works printed in Portugal, including the "Espelho de Married" by João de Barros. The reasons for choosing Vasco Tanquo to be the printer of the Constitutions are unknown, and it is unlikely, according to D. Manuel, that the printer moved purposely to print them. Rather, it seems like a case of opportunity, since throughout the 16th century printing houses were scarce in that city and Spanish was found there in 1540. The edition is recognized by D. Rodrigo da Cunha as being rigorous, and the document was through from which the Diocese was governed until D. Frei Marcos de Lisbon, at the end of that century. Important.
