BOXER (C. R.)
FURTHER Selections from the Tragic History of the Sea 1559-1565. Narratives of the shipwrecks of the Portuguese East Indiamen Aguia e Garça (1559) Sao Paulo (1561) and the misadventures of the Brazil-ship Santo Antonio (1565). Translated and edited from the original by C.R. Boxer. Cambridge: University Press, 1968.

x, 170 pp.: il.; 220 mm.

This work comprises three narratives, here translated into English for the first time, of shipwrecks that hit Portuguese vessels in the mid-16th century. In the introduction, the author describes the lives of his three respective chroniclers, giving bibliographic details of their works. The narratives are translated from the original accounts that Bernardo Gomes de Brito included in his “História Trágico-Marítima” (Lisbon, 1735-36). The volume was produced as a sequel to his earlier work “The Tragic-Maritime History of the Sea, 1589-1622, 1959.
