MANUSCRITO. SANTA MARIA (Fr. Francisco de)

FAZENDA: Origem e Progressos, Privilégios, Graças e Dispendios do Real Collegio de Nossa Senhora da Graça de Coimbra. Examinado tudo em todos os livros, escritturas, e papeis authenticos. [Coimbra]: 1730.

manuscrito sobre papel, 138 ff. numerados; 295 mm. Full calf, tired; waterstained; first folios with loss of margins.

Handwritten work that we consider unpublished, containing a historical repository on the financial management of the Royal College of Nossa Senhora da Graça de Coimbra. The manuscript has the indication of its author handwritten on the first folio, attributing the work to Fr. Francisco de Santa Maria and is dated from 1730. The work gathers in each entrance several forums, privileges, tithes and other forms of income of the College of Nossa Senhora da Graça de Coimbra obtained throughout its history. Mostly written by the same hand, it has some additions with dates later than 1730, probably additions made by other rectors in an attempt to complete the work left. Fr. Francisco de Santa Maria, was born in Lisbon and professed in the Augustinian Hermits in December 1696. He distinguished himself as a student of Theology, having been Rector of the College of Coimbra in 1728, having been elected Provincial on May 7, 1740. According to Barbosa, “he cultivated the lesson of Ecclesiastical History in which he is very well versed, especially in antiquities, and the privileges of his Eremitic Order.” This work of yours, which we believe has never been published, falls within the scope of these studies.
