FIRST EDITION of one of the most important chronicles of one of the most important Portuguese monarchs. Unknown for some time – Barbosa completely ignores the existence of this edition, considering the 1554 edition to be the first, just like Salvá or Brunet -, it is one of the rarest works of Portuguese typography from the 1600s. There is no place here for the hermeneutical discussion that points to Resende’s work as a copy of Rui de Pina’s, which was only published in the 18th century, but there is no doubt about the importance of the text, especially in the parts that Rui de Pina omitted from the monarch’s life since the its birth until the death of D. Afonso V. A true jewel of Portuguese historiography and typography from the 15th century.
