First edition of Afonso de Albuquerque's Epistolography relating to his government in India, making it a very important list of documents for the history of the Portuguese Discoveries and our presence in the East. Afonso de Albuquerque (1462-1515) is the greatest figure in the history of Portugal in the East. He served in Arzila and in the guard of D. João II. In 1503 he was sent to India with his cousin Francisco de Albuquerque. commanding three ships, and together they fought the forces of Calicut and founded the Cochin Fortress. Returning to Portugal in 1504, D. Manuel sent him with Tristão da Cunha back to the East in 1506, appointing him Governor in succession to Francisco de Almeida who would end the three-year period in 1508, until then holding the position of Captain-Major. of the Arabian Sea, where he achieved astonishing victories with a small armada. When he arrived in India in 1508, the viceroy refused to give him power, and was even arrested, requiring royal intervention, which was sent by Marshal D. Fernando Coutinho in October 1509. When he finally obtained power, carried his program to fruition, having achieved astonishing victories. In 1510, Goa was taken, in 1511 the very rich Malacca, in 1512, finding Goa surrounded, he took the Benastarim Fort and recovered the city, in 1514 he was in India on diplomatic work, in 1515 he returned to Hormuz and completed the Fortress. Returning to Goa, at the end of that year and after there were movements against him in the Court, Afonso de Albuquerque died before setting foot on dry land.
