FRITACH (Adam)

Beautiful edition, the third French one, of the most famous fortification treatise of the time. The work is divided into three parts. The first, with the history of the fortifications, geographical considerations and mathematical concepts used. The second part is about the fortification of irregular spaces, different architectural solutions and various cases (old walls, mountains, riverbanks, etc.). And the third and last on military fields, trenches, attack and defense. Adam Fritach (or Frytag), born in Torum, Poland, the same city where Copernicus was born, near the border with Germany, having studied at the Universities of Leipzig and Frankfurt. After completing his studies, he joined the army. In 1629 he entered the University of Leiden where he obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1632, spending the rest of his life in the service of the Duke of Lithuania as a military engineer, architect of fortifications and personal physician. Very rare and important.
