Only published volume of this important study by João Pedro Ribeiro (1758-1839), secular priest, doctor of canons from the University of Coimbra, doctoral canon in the sees of Faro, Viseu and Porto, honorary judge of the Casa da Suplicação, councilor of the Treasury, chronicler of overseas domains, royal censor of the Desembargo do Paço and member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Lisbon. The author was one of the most erudite writers in Portugal, a true precursor of Alexandre Herculano in the historical investigations of documents existing in the archives and notaries of the kingdom.
