VERY RARE. Compilation of literary, historical, biographical, bibliographic, scientific works, etc., by some of the best writers of the 18th century. Published shortly after the foundation of the Academy of Sciences (1779), the Memoirs of Portuguese Literature were a milestone in the process of renewing Portuguese historiography, publishing in its pages the most recent and the best scientific productions from the Portuguese academic universe. Driven by the effort of the Academy of Sciences to popularize the most recent scientific discoveries, History will play a fundamental role in the formation and education of Portuguese society, one of the means being the publication of Memoirs of Literature. Among the collaborators we find: António Caetano do Amaral (1747-1819), one of the main exponents of the Memórias; António das Neves Pereira (?-1818); António de Araújo de Azevedo (1754-1817); António Pereira de Figueiredo (1725-1797); António Ribeiro dos Santos (1745-1818); Constantino Botelho Lacerda Lobo (1753-1820); Francisco Dias Gomes (1745-1795); Francisco Xavier Ribeiro de Sampaio (1741-c.1814); João de Sousa (c.1735-1812); João Pedro Ribeiro (1759-1839); Joaquim de Fóis (1733-1811); Joaquim de Santo Agostinho de Brito França Galvão (1767-1845); Joaquim Forjaz Pereira Coutinho (1712-1798); Joaquim José Ferreira Gordo (1758-1838); José Anastácio de Figueiredo Ribeiro (1766-1805); José António de Sá (?-1819); José Diogo Mascarenhas Neto (1752-1826); José Joaquim Soares de Barros e Vasconcelos (1721-1793); José Verissimo Alves da Silva (1744-1811); Pedro José de Figueiredo (1762-1826); Sebastião Francisco de Mendo Trigoso Magalhães Man (1773-1821); Tomás António de Vila Nova Portugal (1755-1839); Vicente José Ferreira Cardoso da Costa (1765-1834) and a handful of articles by anonymous authors. The list of articles (memories) published in these Memoirs of Literature of the Academy of Sciences presents topics related to the history of Portuguese law, local history, history of the presence of the Jewish people in Portugal, biographies (for example of Pedro Nunes), history of typography Portuguese, history of Portuguese navigation or about the Portuguese presence on the American continent, among many others (see Inocêncio for the complete list of published memories).
