One of the most interesting publications on Goa in the 19th century, profusely documented with separately printed fold-out statistical tables and illustrated with separately printed engravings of the towns and subjects studied. The work describes in great detail the geographical, political, military and social situation of the city, offering a historical overview of the period. It contains chapters on the urban geography of the city, in particular the description of all its fortresses and military organization, and this chapter includes a section on the Military Hospital and the state of medical education in Goa.
