FIRST EDITION of one of the most important and emblematic works of national literature and history. According to João José Alves Dias, there are at least two printings of this first edition, with the most notable difference being found in the Dedication folio and its verso. In one of the impressions Fernão Mendes Pinto is "nobleman and servant of Kings" and a native of Almada, in another he is "a man of lively ingenuity and happy memory" and a native of Montemor-o-Velho. According to the same bibliographer, there are other different states of printing. This copy has the folio of the second version. Very rare and very valuable.
