ALMAGESTUM seu Magnae Constructionis Mathematicae. Opus Plane Divinum Latina Donatum Lingua ab Georgio Trapezuntio […]. Per Lucam Gauricum […]. Veneza: Calcographica Luceantonii Iu[n]ta officina, 1528.
A6, a-r8, s7; [6], 143 ff.: il.; 310 mm. Fine copy, clean; modern full calf with box.
FIRST LATIN EDITION MADE FROM THE GREEK ORIGINAL of the extremely important text by Ptolemy, the source of all astronomical studies up to Brahe and Kepler. Before this 1528 edition, the only Latin translation was made from the Arabic text that had been translated from the original. The translation was made by Jorge de Trebizond from the manuscript found in the Vatican and the edition was by Luca Gaurico, a mathematics professor who edited numerous works on mathematics and astronomy. Very rare and important.
