Second edition of one of the most important texts of the Arcadians. Published posthumously in 1802, O Hyssope was written in the epic style of Os Lusíadas, in a style purposefully chosen to better bring out the ridiculous. Its theme is a matter of ceremonial between the bishop of Elvas and the dean of the respective Cathedral. The poem ridicules feudal values, the scholastic mentality, Gongo poetry, the pomp of the aristocracy and the abuses practiced by the high clergy. Rare.
