Maximilien Sébastien Foy was a French army officer and politician. Take part in the Battle of Jemmapes, in the campaign of Italy and Germany among others. Maintained by Napoleon despite his hostility to the Consulate and the Empire, he accompanies Junot in the invasion of Portugal and fights in the Battle of Vimeiro, after which he is appointed general. In 1810, he fought in Bussaco, being wounded, and in the same year in Salamanca and Orthez. He attends the Battle of Waterloo and is named inspector of the army by Louis XVIII. When he leaves the military career, he writes his History of the Peninsula War, which has seen several editions and translations. Illustrated with a large fold-out map showing the positioning of French troops in the Iberian Peninsula. Rare and treasured.
